I listen to all kinds of music. The other day I was jammin’ to an oldie but goodie by The Temptations. While ‘singing’ along, (I use that term loosely if you’ve ever heard me ‘sing’!) I took note of the lyrics; in particular how relevant most of them still are today---43 years after they were written!!! Kind of a sad indictment on the lack of our human progress: Here are some of the lines from 1970’s “Ball Of Confusion” by The Temptations:
People movin' out People movin' in, why? because of the color of their skin
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, vote for me, and I'll set you free
The sale of pills are at an all time high, young folks walk around with their heads in the sky
Air pollution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul, shootin' rockets to the moon, kids growin' up too soon
Politicians say more taxes will solve everything
Fear is in the air, tension everywhere, unemployment rising fast, eve of destruction, tax deduction
city inspectors, bill collectors, people all over the world, are shoutin' "End The War"
And the band played on.
Ball of Confusion
That's what the world is today
