WEEKDAYS 6:00am-10:00am

I LOVE playing rockin' songs on KHITS in the morning 'cause when I'm crankin' up the studio speakers (...and they are SA-weet!)...I visualize you rollin' down the highway 'equally cranked'! I've been up and down the dial in St. Louis since the mid 80's doing news anchor and talk show host gigs on the AM band. On FM I've been "Rockin' Ricky" (still am!), part of Chase and Sanborn , one of the brothers of The Sanborn Brothers, and the music stations ran the gamut, rock, country, oldies, soft rock, smooth jazz...and here at "The Rock Wall of Emmis" where I'm havin' a blast! This place rocks!

Stones and Sopranos connection
Posted 12/21/2012 7:17:00 AM

A good rock and roll-themed movie opens Friday January 4th and I wanted to draw your attention to it since I've seen it and enjoyed it. The movie is called "Not Fade Away". The trailer features The Rolling Stones doing "Parachute Woman" from 'Beggar's Banquet'. Here's the connection to The Stones and Sopranos creator David Chase's vision. (I think it's his homage to garage bands that seek the limelight and hope to 'Not Fade Away".) Its 1964. The Rolling Stones appear on television, and upon seeing their seductive performance, three best friends from the suburbs of New Jersey decide to form a rock band.    Director David Chase calls on his some of his 'good fellas' to help him out, James Gandolfini plays the main character's dad and the music is under the supervision of Steve Van Zandt. As movie critic Ben Kramer says in his review on IMDb;  "Repeatedly watching, with the characters, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Buddy Holly perform on a small black and white TV, I was sent back into the age of drugs, sex, and rock and roll. The band's original songs were probably the highlight of the film." I agree with that. The well known early "60's songs that Van Zandt's band covers under the name The Twylight Zones makes it worth seeking out the soundtrack. (now available at iTunes and other digital platforms) You can read Kramer's review and learn more about the film here; www.imdb.to/fhK32g
