Open Door Animal Sanctuary has a large selection of mature dogs and cats and, depending upon the season, puppies and kittens are also available. They have animals of all descriptions some are purebred but most are of mixed parentage. All of these animals need someone with whom to share their lives.

Mission: ODAS is a no-kill shelter dedicated to preserving the life and health of homeless cats and dogs, providing shelter, food and veterinary care while fostering their social skills and encouraging their adoption into loving homes. To adopt an animal from Open Door Animal Sanctuary you must provide the utmost care for our angels. They believe the perfect home is one that provides a lifetime commitment, adequate shelter, good food & fresh water, regular veterinary care and 100 kisses a day. ODAS screens all potential adopters to make sure they will provide the care that we feel is important to our animals.

Pet Profiles For This Event:

Tippy - Terrier Mix: Hi, I'm Tippy! Someone dumped me, my mom and brothers at the shelter gate in December. We were the cutest little puppies anyone had ever seen. Guess what - they were all adopted except poor little me. Everyone here tells me not to worry because my day is coming soon - I sure hope so because I dream of having a family to call my own - I pawmise to be the the best boy ever!

Harley Davidson – Lab Mix: I'm Harley Davidson and so far in life the road has been ruff. I was adopted from the shelter when I was a pup ( 3 years ago). My family decided to have a baby so they said it was time for me to go. My next home said I was too big and then finally I found a family who I thought would love and keep me forever. Boy was I wrong... after two years, my family split up. I absolutely paw-mise it's not my fault. I'm a wonderful guy (house broken  and crate trained too) and I like playing with other dogs and kids.

Toby - Shepherd Mix: My name is commonly referred to as Heinz 57. You see, I've been at the shelter since I was born in October of last year. There's so much competition these days that cute dogs like me are overlooked because we're just plain ol' Heinz 57s. So now I'm almost 7 months old. Everyone here loves me and would take me home to be their very own because I've been their baby since day one but... they've already got lots of pets. I never give up hoping that I'll find a "real" family who will love me.

Spur – Cattle Dog Mix: My name is Spur and as you can see I'm a very cute guy. I'm recently came to the shelter after someone found me - I'd been beaten up by another dog - OUCH! The nice people here nursed me back to health and now I'm as good as new. My new family will need to understand that I'm very energetic and sending me to school to learn a few lessons would be a good idea.  I sure hope you have another dog for me to play with too!

Lacey – Shepherd Mix: My name is Lacey and lately I've traveled down a ruff road. I'm sure you remember the recent flood - well you see, I was stranded on the outer banks of the Meramac yelping for help because the water was rising quickly and there was no where for me to go. Finally someone came to my rescue and brought me to OPEN DOOR. I'm very happy to be safe and secure but what I really need now is a family to call my very own. Won't you please help me?

Bridget – Tortoiseshell/Calico: You see, me and my two sisters had a family who lost their home. We lived in a car for a few months until the director of OPEN DOOR took us to her house. Now we are waiting for someone to fall in love with us. I am very sweet and love to have people pet me. I’m a very quiet girl who is just learning how to play. I like to play with balls and fuzzy mice. I’m a little shy still, but I promise that with a little love, I’ll warm right up. I also like to look out windows. It's such a big world out there!

Ira Joe – Orange Tabby: Ira here - a big lover boy in need of a new family and home! I'm a big guy and my family decided to give me up just because I got a little fussy with the toddler in the family. Hey, what would you do if some little munchkin was hitting you and pulling your tail? Instead of the parents teaching the kid what the word "gentle" means, they coddle him and kick me to the curb (so to speak!) I'm quite a character and I love people! Come on, I'll be the best friend you could ever imagine.

Patty – Black & White: I'm super fun! When I first got dumped at OPEN DOOR, I was scared to death. I didn't think I'd make it. But now I'm really showing off my stuff. I run and play almost all day long. The only time I stop is so the ladies that work here can pet me. I love to be petted and held. I have a brother, his name is Harry and he's a really nice boy, but he's still scared. If you're in the market for a spunky, fun loving, affectionate, beautiful girl....you're in luck, that's me! If you happen to have space in your home and heart for two, I would love to stay with my brother.

Smokey – Gray: I can tell you’re going to fall in love with me. I’m the greatest cat in the world! Well, at least the best at OPEN DOOR. I am so incredibly loving, it’s hard for the staff to get their work done. I LOVE to be held. But let’s be honest, how could you not want to hold me? I’ve been here too long, no one really pays any attention to me. It’s not really their fault, the staff had nowhere for me but the kitten building. So, people usually come over here to see the kids. I really don’t know why, have you spent a whole day with a bunch of kittens? It really is enough to drive you bonkers.

Sweet Potato – Orange Tabby: I’m such a yam, er I mean ham. I love to get everyone’s attention. My friend Buddy and I lost our home when the flood hit. I was so scared when I came to OPEN DOOR, but I’ve adjusted quite nicely. I am such a sweet guy, all the employees love me. I’m a big guy that loves to play and get attention. I like brushes, fuzzy mice, and talking. I also have a talent, I play fetch. No, seriously, I do. If you throw my toys, I will go running after them, and bring it back and drop it at your feet. Then you throw it again!! Isn’t that fun? I like it here, but it’s not a home. I need a place where I can lay on the bed, sit in the windows, and talk to my new family.
