Neil Young and wife divorcing after 36 years
Neil Young and his wife of 36 years, Peggi Young, are divorcing. In 1986, the couple co-founded Northern California’s Bridge School for children and young adults with severe speech and physical disabilities. The Young’s have two children, Amber and Ben -- who suffers from cerebral palsy. Neil and Peggi have been frequent collaborators over the years as well, with Peggi branching off, releasing three solo albums and touring both with Neil and on her own.
Rolling Stone reported, "A petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by (Neil) Young in their hometown of San Mateo, California, on July 29th. A hearing is scheduled for December 12th.” The Young’s were originally announced to share the bill on September 13th at Farm Aid in Raleigh, North Carolina, but Peggi’s name has since been removed. There's now word yet whether she'll also sit out next month's Bridge School Benefit.
The couple met in 1978 when she was a waitress at a diner near Neil’s home, with Young immortalizing her in the 1992 Harvest Moon song "Unknown Legend." "I used to order just to watch her float across the floor/She grew up in a small town/Never put her roots down."
