Elton John is back in the Top 10 with his latest album, The Diving Board, entering the Billboard 200 at Number Four. The Diving Board is the followup to his 2010 collaboration with hero Leon Russell, The Union, which topped out at Number Three -- marking the "Rocket Man's" best chart performance since his 1976 double album, Blue Moves -- which also peaked at Number Three and closed out his multi-platinum '70s era.
Vintage Vinyl News reported that Elton John will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rockefeller Foundation in recognition of his philanthropic work next month. The honor will be presented to Elton on October 30th at the "A Celebration Of American Philanthropy" gala at the Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Elton, who launched his Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992, said in a statement: "From the beginning, it has been my steadfast belief that we would not be able to treat or cure HIV/AIDS when people living with the disease or very vulnerable to it are shunned, hidden, or denied their human rights. It is an honor to receive this Award from The Rockefeller Foundation, an organization that has been at the forefront of leveraging innovation, in all its forms, to promote the well-being of humanity around the world."
Elton John has put his money where his mouth is by personally donating millions of dollars of his own money to raise AIDS awareness: "Every single that I put out, all the money from those singles goes to AIDS related charities. And I've seen a lot of people who have AIDS face up to their impending death with such courage and such dignity. But I also know that gay men are not the only people who suffer from this disease. Having been around and been fortunate to have know the (Ryan) White family (and) Elizabeth Glaser, I know this disease effects everybody."
Elton John next performs on Saturday (October 5th) at Las Vegas' The Colosseum At Caesars Palace.
