According to a report from RumorFix.com, Richie Sambora has been fired from Bon Jovi. Sambora, who backed off the band's current world tour after the band's first 21 shows, has traded barbs back and forth about why he's off the road -- but neither he nor Jon Bon Jovi would elaborate. Bon Jovi has consistently cited Sambora's having "personal issues" as the reason -- much to Sambora's annoyance. An unnamed source said that Sambora and Bon Jovi have irreconcilable differences, stating, "Richie wants to go back on stage -- that's his first love. He's really upset over the news."
According to the report, in addition to his share of songwriting royalties, Sambora was earning "$2 million a month and 20 percent of the profits after each show." His live replacement, Philip 'Phil X' Xenidis is reportedly bringing home up to $10,000 a month covering for him on tour.
The events over the past few months came as a shock to us after talking to Richie Sambora just before the tour's launch. Sambora seemed proud of the band's new album, What About Now, and was pleased with how the band was gelling in rehearsals: "Y'know, obviously to prepare for a tour that looks like a year-and-a-half, or something like that, y'know, you have to physically prepare for it. But once you get out there, you get in a groove, man. And, y'know, this is what we love to do. It's an anomaly that we still all get along together and, y'know, have a great time playing together, and we're still making music that people wanna hear and people wanna come see us play, and that's a big magnet, also."
