GLENN FREY SAYS 'THE EAGLES WAS AN UNREAL WORLD'

1/24/2013

Although no tour dates have been announced yet, Glenn Frey and the Eagles are gearing up for a busy year. The band's official two-part documentary, History Of The Eagles just premiered at Sundance and is set to air next month on Showtime before heading to DVD in March. Although the band chose to sit out its 40th anniversary in 2012, Frey has gone on record as saying that 2013 will be the year for a major Eagles return to the road.

Frey, who's now 64, was asked by Classic Rock magazine if he was growing older gracefully. He explained, "I believe in age-appropriate behavior. All the time I spent partying in the Eagles in the late-'70s didn't seem so strange to me because everybody was doing the same things. But it'd look awfully stupid of me now to still be acting like I did when I was 28. I have a family now, and that's a very sobering job."

He went on to say: "The Eagles was an unreal world, with Lear jets, nice hotels, police escorts, sold-out stadiums, women, drugs. That's not the world I live in now."

Frey, who's been a family man for the past two decades, admits that his kids are the ones helping him stay hip these days: "I think they know what we do and they have a certain amount of respect for, y'know, what we do, but they have their own music. I kinda stay a little bit current by listening to what my kids are listening to."

We asked Frey what exactly is the status of the Eagles this year: "For us right now, we're in a situation where we've finished the touring cycle and we -- first of all decide whether we wanna continue to play live shows -- and if we do, I think we'll do something that's in sync with a project that we have going on right now, which is The History Of The Eagles. We have a two-DVD project; the first DVD being the band from 1971 to 1980, the second being 1994 to the present."

History Of The Eagles will premiere on Showtime on February 15th and 16th.

The DVD will be released "as early as March 19" with the package including two discs featuring the documentary and a third disc showcasing eight songs filmed during the band's tour behind 1976's Hotel California.
