Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive co-founder Randy Bachman says that the downfall of the record industry is the direct result of decades of record company greed. Bachman will head back out on the road this week with bassist Fred Turner for their latest batch of Bachman & Turner shows in support of their new live CD and DVD Live At The Roseland Ballroom, NYC.
Bachman firmly believes that the obsession of maximizing the almighty dollar ruined a booming industry for all involved: "Somebody has created this product and they're way over-charging for it -- almost like a corporate-government move on, like, the oil scam, right? There's no real oil shortage, except the gas (prices) keep going up and so does the oil -- there's no real shortage. It's the same with the record business. They say, 'Vinyl is out and CD's are in.' So they go to every record store and they pull out all the bins -- so if you have vinyl, they don't even fit there anymore. Then they sell everybody new shelves that hold the size of a CD. And it's 'Let's make another buck! Let's make another buck!'"
