Friday, 1/5 -- Hi, thanks for reading this. Your time is valuable and I’m glad you are wasting it here.
Again this morning Laurie was doing news, because John was in Washington, D.C. for the swearing in of the new Congress.
In incorrect news, 99% of everything I’m telling you is wrong. But does that mean that last statement is wrong? I could go into this further but I’ll either look really stupid or like a jackass. I’d prefer for you to still be ambiguous about that for now.
We spoke about our early jobs in the food industry. Jen worked at Trainwreck Saloon. Laurie Mac paid her dues at the Royale Dumpe & local movie theaters. JC worked at Bo-Burgers and at the Colony Theater in Chicago. As a teen, I worked at Miss Sheri’s Cafeteria for 5 years, dating many of their waitresses, most of whom broke my heart.
Laurie & JC reviewed the new film, Notes on a Scandal. Both of them gave it 4 out of 5 Macs and Corks. You can now hear their reviews by clicking here.
We found the 100 most annoying things of 2006 on RetroCrush.com. Watch out for the language, or as the kids say “NSFW!”
JC asked us and then you, the listener, how we would predict the Highway 40/64 construction project would go. On a scale of 1–10, 1 being: “Life continues as normal” and 10 being (as the news story ends)… "and then he turned the gun on himself.”
I gave it a 4. I believe they will finish ahead of schedule. I was alone on that.
Mac is so prepared for a “10” that she thinks it won’t be as bad as she fears and it will wind up feeling like a 3 to her. She says it will be a huge pain, but not insurmountable. Jen says it will be a catastrophe, and really cause her to change her life and she gives it a 5. JC believes it will be between an 8 and 15 and someone’s head will be on a pike. You, the listeners, expect catastrophe because you averaged a 10.6 on a scale of 1–to-10. Someone said it will be a 20. We will revisit this on July 9th.
Here is the information from the news story about the car seats: Consumer Reports tested 12 brands of car seats. They can only recommend two of them – the “Baby Trend Flex-Loc” and the “Graco SnugRide with EPS.” The magazine urged officials to recall the “Evenflo Discovery.”
Our picture today is one that JC took in Ladue. It is worth more than 1,000 words.
The "Joke's on You" was stand-up from Bill Burr who has a new special on Comedy Central Sunday evening. "What Have You Done for Me Lately" was the New Cars' Not Tonight and the Vault was Stand or Fall by The Fixx.
Finally, Roger Goodell is the current NFL commissioner. 1983’s St. Louis Cardinal’s theme song was “Instant Replay” by Dan Hartman. Today’s Film Clip Friday was M*A*S*H. And Bill Murray sang “Physical” by Olivia Newton-John on the first Late Night with David Letterman.
Don’t Do Anything Stupid,
