Monday, 5/5 --
Hola y buenos dias! We had another “terremoto” this morning on the actual 5th of May anniversary of the Battle of Puebla.
If people from Saint Louis are Saint Louisans, then do we also have Buffalonians, Tampons & Baltimorons?
JC believes that most accidental home fires where a kid is playing with matches or a lighter is probably a house where one of the occupants is a smoker. He has no proof, but it sounds nice.
What can you, the listener, buy for $.41?
JC doesn’t believe the “forever stamps” will remain “forever.” One postal worker said they hope you buy them, lose them & then have to buy more.
The winner of our Saint Louis Bread Company contest knew that David Gates was the lead singer of Bread.
JC doesn’t understand the appeal of the Kentucky Derby. He was turned off by horse racing as a child when he watched “Let’s Go to the Races.”
64% of women admit that they like to sexually tease men.
60% of women who have been in a relationship for about a year say they want to have frequent sex. But of the women who have been in relationships for more than 16 years, only 25% want to have sex often.
82% of women have a more fulfilling sexual experience if their partner stimulates their nipples.
49% of women say they can reach orgasm during straight-up intercourse & that percentage shoots up to 89% if there's been adequate foreplay prior to the combining of genitalia.
In the average week, Americans only spend 57 minutes getting their groove on. That's actually 14 minutes less than the global average.
If you're a college student hoping to increase your chances of getting some end-of-year action, then listen up because according to a new survey, a student's major actually might affect how likely they are to be receptive to your drunken advances.
Theology majors have had an average of two sexual partners by the time they graduate.
Language majors – five.
History majors – six.
Political Science – seven.
The most promiscuous major is medicine. Pre-med majors have had an average of eight sexual partners.
Every year, the people behind the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial auction off a bunch of pretty cool stuff for people with a ridiculous amount of disposable income. Here are 10 things still biddable before the auction closes on Wednesday (May 7th) & their current bids:
10. For $37,000, a scene with Johnny Depp in the upcoming movie "Public Enemies" as a 'featured extra' - which means no lines.
9. A private, one-hour tennis lesson with Andre Agassi for $75,000.
8. Tea at the Four Seasons with Alan Greenspan for $18,500.
7. Meet Oprah after sitting in the VIP section during the taping of her show for $14,500.
6. $2,050 is how much it'll cost to meet up with Barbara Walters after a taping of "The View.”
5. Also for $2,050, you can meet Owen Wilson at the L.A. premiere of his new movie Marley & Me.

3. Dinner for five in the private wine cellar of Steve Forbes' New York townhouse for $3,750.
2. The dress Sharon Stone wore to the premiere of Basic Instinct in 1992 for $850.
1. And how'd you like to be in Washington for the inauguration of our next president? You get VIP sitting during the ceremony, go to a bunch of balls and functions & you get to meet the next president for only $50,000.
Our Mother’s Day prize features a pair of tickets to see Thoroughly Modern Millie at Stages St. Louis. Plus, a gift certificate to Merb's Candies for 2 pounds of chocolate-covered strawberries.
The grand prize is for you & two friends to join Laurie Mac for a "Girls Night Out" on Thursday, June 5th! First, you head to Daisy Clover Boutique in Webster Groves, for a "Denim Makeover Package." Then your Jed Limousine driver takes you to Sunset 44 for heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Then ride to Stages to see Thoroughly Modern Millie, the first show of the Stages 2008 season.
Who’d we see?
JC:
Friday – First to the Sound Room to get a new DVD burner. Then the Banner guys came over to look at some windows. He ended the evening at the ball yard. He went out to center field where he couldn’t do the math to understand 40–60 feet vs. 60 mph. (I can’t understand it either & no matter what I write here it will be wrong. Does this make any sense? No, it doesn’t. Sorry.)
Saturday – First Watch for breakfast. For his elder daughter’s birthday: Rock School, School Choir & then My Chemical Romance at the Pageant.
Sunday – He also started throwing breaking pitches. Shopped at the pool store. Watched “Dexter,” cooked steaks on the grill & then watched the baseball game.
John:
Baseball all weekend.
But Saturday – watched his daughters’ sporting events. Saw Joe Buck.
Imo’s & Espino’s with his trainer Chris from Sports Enhancement.
Laurie:
Ddidn’t go out this weekend. Except for Saturday when she visited Blueberry Hill & had a great server. Instead of going out she & her husband watched a robin feeding her babies & hung out with their neighbors.
Me:
Friday – Saw Ralph Butler at the Boathouse in Forest Park.
Saturday – Rigazzi's on the Hill. Thanks to server, Jake. We were invited to a “Tres de Mayo” party where my friends pulled up the Blarrrg & commented on my work. (Speaking of the Blarrrg, more than one person has asked for my wife’s recipes from last Thursday, so see below…)
Sunday – Grant’s Farm for a new Bud Light Lime – that my daughter promptly “killed” (by dropping it on the floor). My wife & sister-in-law went to the game with former producer, John-John & the Dickensons. I stayed home & watched A Bugs Life with my daughter.
Here are my wife’s recipes:
Important note for your listeners: If you are looking for "health
food," then these recipes are not the way to go! We're a 'meat & potatoes' kind
of family and in my experience (not professional!), picky eaters have
responded well to these dishes. The ravioli is also very good if you need
to 'take a dish' because you can assemble and then hold off baking until you
reach your destination so it will still be served hot.
Thank you for asking for the recipes. That's very flattering and made my
day. Of course, I am happy to share!
Burgers in Soup Gravy
This
recipe is a comfort food from my Grandma Lola.
Ingredients:
-Four (or more) burger patties
-One can cream of chicken soup (Grandma uses cream of celery but I like the
chicken better.)
-1/2 to 3/4 can chicken broth (Grandma uses water. I like the richer flavor
from the broth. I use Swanson but probably any brand will be fine.)
-1 beef bouillon cube (if you smash it up before adding, it mixes in better)
Fry the burgers in patties and drain the grease. Mix the soup, broth, and
bouillon cube. Pour soup mixture over burgers. Cover and simmer for 20-30
minutes. You can add onion, salt and pepper to taste if your family likes
those seasonings. Also, I usually serve with mashed potatoes and biscuits
because the gravy can be spooned on top. Enjoy!
Ravioli Lasagna
Recipe is my adaptation from a Home Economics recipe I picked up
at a local grocery store a long time ago. I guess it's more 'inspired by'
because at this point my version is nothing like theirs, but that's where I
got the idea...
Ingredients:
-2 packages frozen ravioli (Can use beef or cheese. I like the Louisa's
brand; I think that's made here in Saint Louis!)
- 1 lb. ground beef for the sauce (Totally optional if your family doesn't
eat meat, but we like it)
-1 large jar red pasta sauce. (I use the Organic Ragu in the 'traditional'
flavor. Prego is good, too.)
-1 large package Kraft Italian blend shredded cheese
-Kraft parmesan cheese (or fresh if you have it)
-Italian seasoning
-Garlic Powder
-Salt and pepper to taste
Heat oven to 350.
Brown the meat in a skillet, season with the garlic powder, salt and
pepper as it cooks. Drain the grease and add the pasta sauce. Add a little
more garlic, some Italian seasoning and cover. Simmer while you prepare the
ravioli.
Prepare the ravioli according to package directions and drain. In a greased
9x13 baking dish, spoon a thin layer of sauce on the bottom. Arrange a
single layer of the ravioli. Spoon another layer of sauce. Sprinkle
liberally with parmesan and then add a layer of shredded Italian cheese. Repeat ravioli, sauce, parmesan and shredded cheese layers until ravioli is
all used. End with cheese on top.
Bake uncovered for 30 minutes or until sauce is bubbly, cheese is melted and
turning golden around the edges. Serve with garlic bread and salad. Enjoy!
We wish a “happy birthday” to our friend Everett Marshall. He did my job back in the late 80s & early 90s. Also, once a year he tries to convert JC back to the Christian fold.
And also a Happy Happy to Amy Moorehouse (from Live Nation).
The JoY was “The Dirty Song.” The 3fA featured our first in a series of initialed bands. Today: CCR, LRB & ELP. The Vault was “Diana” by Bryan Adams. Finally, the Mercury Seven Astronauts were/are M. Scott Carpenter (1925-), L. Gordon Cooper, Jr. (1927-2004), John H. Glenn, Jr. (1921-), Virgil I. Grissom (1926-1967), Walter M. Schirra (1923-2007), Alan B. Shepard, Jr. (1923-1998) & Donald K. Slayton (1924-1993).
