Welcome back Dave Murray! While in Hawai’i Dave saw “vog.” Vog is a portmanteau (blended word) from the words "volcanic" & "smog," & is a volcanic smog formed when sulfur dioxide & other pollutants emitted by an erupting volcano mix with oxygen & moisture in the presence of sunlight.
We had another earthquake this morning. It was 4.5 on the Richter scale. None of us felt it. I guess we are all experts after last week.
JC won’t watch movies more than once if they contain a vomit scene.
Prawns are in the suborder Dendobranchiata, while shrimp are classified as Pleocyemata. The primary difference is the gill structure. Shrimp have branching gills, while prawns have lameller gills with a platelike structure. There are a few other distinguishing features. The front pincers of shrimp are typically the largest, while prawns have bigger second pincers. Prawns also have longer legs than shrimp. These differences may seem subtle, but they indicate different steps along the evolutionary path of both creatures.
JC has never heard of using vinegar as a sunburn remedy.
Don’t put your house plants out until May 15th.
JC thinks that some traffic cameras are decoys to make people slow down. One of you said it was a sensor of some sort.
Speaking of decoys:
The top celebrity Hillary Clinton supporters: Ellen DeGeneres, Elton John, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, Jack Nicholson, Natalie Portman, Perez Hilton, America Ferrera, Magic Johnson, Barbra Streisand & Eva Longoria Parker.
The top celebrity Barack Obama supporters: Oprah Winfrey, Will.i.am (from the Black Eyed Peas), the Kennedy women (including Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver. Arnold is all about John McCain, not surprisingly), Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Rock, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Aniston.
John McCain's celebrity supporters: Heidi Montag (from MTV’s "The Hills"), Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Wilford Brimley & Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.
According to a study in the journal "Pediatrics", cheerleading-related injuries have doubled since 1990 & in 2002 (the last year we have numbers). Nearly 23,000 cheerleading injuries to girls between the ages of five & 18 happened in that time.
The National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research (which collects data on sports-related deaths & disabilities) found that of the 107 catastrophic injuries to female athletes in high school & college since 1982, 60 were from cheerleading.
Travel author Marybeth Bond has been tracking travel data since 1993. She says that in the last seven years, the number of women-only travel companies has increased by 230%.
We gave away the Laurie Mac Land seats by smooshing: the mid-morning event of the last time we had a Busch Bash & Howard Stern would be After-Shock Jock.
Who’d We See:
JC: Friday – J. Buck’s with friends in town because they are station owners in the Cardinals Radio Network. Then he & “Triple C” went to K–Hits Trivia Night.
Saturday – Had a Beefeater at First Watch & loved it, as he does every time. He then spent all day at his elder daughter’s field hockey tournament at Christian Brothers College High School (where he got sun & wind burned).
Sunday – Again they went to J. Buck’s & again to the baseball game (where he got more sunburned).
Me: Friday – Trivia night, then to Dogtown Italiano (which is neither in Dogtown, nor an Italian restaurant) where I saw my friend Steve (who’s in the band Peter, Paul & Larry). We discussed the possibility of Joe Cocker’s sister living in Saint Louis & Joe’s (supposed) love of local band Gargoyle Rain. (If anyone can confirm or deny this, then please lmk.)
Saturday – A busy first part of the day: “The Best of the Showgram,” Cardinals baseball & Kate Z’s 6th birthday party. Then my wife & I (who looked amazing in her red dress btw) headed to the Bob Costas Gala at the Fox Theatre for Cardinal Glennon. (Thanks for the great seats, Woody.) The surprise guests were NBC Sports honcho Dick Ebersol, sportscaster Paul MacGuire & Chuck Berry. I wish Chuck would have played more hits &/or let The Goo Goo Dolls play their full set.
Sunday – More charity, this time for Food Outreach. We went to “A Tasteful Affair” at Khorassan Room in the Chase Park Plaza, where Mrs. the Intern saw Rich LoRusso.
Laurie: Friday – Trivia night & then home to clean the house for company.
Saturday – her cousin & his son came in town to check out Washington University. Sunday – she decided not to see Little Bosnia at Avalon Theatre Co. to ensure she didn’t make anyone else ill.
John: Baseball all weekend, where Friday he insulted Mike Shannon’s manhood. Saturday – his youngest daughter had two soccer games. And John continued to hang out in the Busch Stadium Press Box men’s room & have more interesting discussions with Mike. Sunday – the Rock & Roll Car show & more baseball.
The JoY was stand-up from Gary Mule-Deer. The 3fA featured the Zombies. The Vault was “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” by Carole King from the re-mastered Tapestry. Finally, Christopher Plummer played Mike Wallace in The Insider.
