Tuesday, 4/8 -- Hi! I wish I knew what to tell you, the listener, on when he is returning. But send your well wishes to jc@jcontheline.com. We did learn today that it is an illness & nothing to do with his back or foot.

Today’s best of bits:
-- Injuries at Sports Events from last month
-- Calls about JC’s Sore Foot from last week.
-- A Tree Falls on JC’s Property from last month.
-- Screen Test from Friday March 14th.
-- Screen Test from Saint Patrick’s Day.
-- Mudslides, Bridges & Sports’ Good Ol’ Days from last week.
-- Facts about Height from last week.
-- Turn on Your Headlights! & Funerals from last week.

From our buddy, Dave at CW11:
“Each morning on the traffic report you tell us about a back-up on the King Bridge due to construction.

The real deal is that [a local establishment where they have games of chance] has blocked-off a crucial lane at the Missouri end of the bridge and all the traffic gets reduced to one lane. The bitch is, they haven't been doing anything for the last week.  I suspect they're putting up a sign, but the crane is long gone & every morning the barricades just sit there strangling the flow. Can you find out what the hell they are doing and when they'll give us our lane back?

Some time ago, I had our News dept. look into this issue when they actually were doing [the] construction … as it turns out, it's not MODOTs jurisdiction, but the city's. When we contacted the city, they had a hard time finding out exactly who authorized the lane restriction.

IT'S DRIVING ILLINOIS COMMUTERS CRAZY!”

Sorry Dave, we can’t help ya. Our news department (John) is off today because JC is sick.

We continued our Carlos Santana contest today, but since JC wasn’t here it was pretty simple. I’m sure if & when he returns, it’ll be a bit tougher.

We teased our “Four Seasons, Four Seasons or Four Seasons” contest we will start next week in anticipation of Jersey Boys coming to the Fox.

Joy Grdnic came by to talk about The Fountain on Locust. And the Food Outreach charity event I mentioned isn’t until June. Clicky for more.

I have received some very nice e-mails from people asking about my dearly departed kitty. Here’s the cathartic piece I sent out to my friends & family:

"In December of 1993 my sister gave me a kitten. She was like no other.

I wanted to name her after a Simpsons character, but not after one of the pets - after Krusty the clown. She would be Krusty the Kitty (or something to that effect). That was shot down by everyone I knew, especially my girlfriend – now wife. ("I won't be calling her that!" was often heard.) As a compromise, I named her "D'oh!" after Homer's annoyed grunt. It seemed to suit her since she appeared not to like a single human being.

I like to think she liked me, but I suppose that's because I fed her. She even cuddled me in the evening. But I sometimes wondered if she wasn't trying to keep me from deep sleep in some odd plot to kill me. She tolerated my wife, but I'm supposing that had something to do with the fact that she fed her and gave her more treats than I did.

She was the reason we went from carpets to hardwood floors. She was the reason we looked for old time baby gates when we finally had a child. This would keep the baby out of the bathroom, while still letting D'oh Kitty in so she could do her business. Yes, she & I shared a bathroom.

Those who met her for the first time all said the same thing, "What's up with your cat?"

Some tried a different approach: "Oh, she'll like me. Cats love me." or "I'll tame her."

Fools, all of them.

She'd watch you & then once you got too close: hiss, bat at you and possibly try to bite if you still stuck around.

You might have thought she didn't like you, that wasn't true. She was totally apathetic towards you... especially if you didn't leave her alone. And later that evening she'd come up to me & we'd have a laugh together about how silly it was.

When the baby came along, it revitalized the 10-year-old cat. She was rejuvenated from her sedentary ways. This was mostly due to escaping the little fingers of a toddler.

They soon came to an understanding. You don't bother me & I won't pee on your princess dolls. As they both aged, they started to play – I wouldn't say with each other, more like in the same vicinity. But that was a lot for D'oh.

Last month, we had to take D'oh to the Saint Louis Cat Clinic. In the last few weeks she had lost much weight, stopped eating, started walking erratically & didn't always make it to where she was going. It seemed her kidneys were failing her and nothing could be done to help her.

She's batting her paws at the angels now.

Thanks for indulging me.

Here’s a picture of D’oh and me watching David Letterman (yes, that is a mullet. But, hey, it was 1993!):

Bob, I’m coming to bring my taxes by your office as soon as I get outta here.

The JoY was “Fast Food” by Stevens & Grdnic (yes, our guest from this morning). The 3fA featured Bruce Springsteen. Finally, The Vault was winner of the NCAARP Tournament (sorry, Mary & congratulations, Laurie), Eric Clapton’s “She Rides” (no, not “Let It Rain”).
