Friday, 12/21 --
Merry Christmas to all & to all a stiff drink.
Some people liked the music at the Rams game last night. If it was too loud, then I apologize – but I’m not in charge of that (or where the speakers are located). But the Blues won!
John graced us all with his amazing singing voice (with former Senator Jim Talent on the organ).
Allen Watson pitched with the Cardinals from 1993-95 then with the Giants, Angels, Mets, Mariners & Yankees.
I would list all the Christmas songs we played today, but we played too many. Listen Monday from 6–10am for all of them. Please stop e-mailing about them; I have stopped responding. (Try it, I won’t write back – not even a quick note!)
Once again, here’s our holiday Showgram schedule for the next week:
Fri. 12/21 - Showgram Christmas Show until 11am with special guests.
Sat. 12/22 – I’ll host the Best of the Showgram (as usual).
Mon. 12/24 – I’m in to play Showgram-esque Christmas music and bits library – so set up a recorder and quit e-mailing and calling about it.
Tue. 12/25 - Music only: Radio Rich’s Christmas with the Folks.
Wed. 12/26 - I’ll host a Best of the Showgram.
Thu. 12/27 - I’ll host a Best of the Showgram with a replay of the Dan Fogelberg tribute.
Fri. 12/28 - I’ll host a Best of the Showgram.
Sat. 12/29 – I’ll play the “Promo Show.” A summary of all the daily recycler promos we produce each day.
Mon. 12/31 – I’ll replay the Promo Show.
Tue. 1/1 - Music only. We’ll be recovering.
Wed. 1/2 - The Showgram will be back to live shows beginning with our new Pre-Wind beginning at 5:30am.
Thanks to our “Little Elf, Crumpet” for helping out today. Laurie’s husband provided much assistance. (That’s a David Sedaris reference. I recommend reading or listening to “The Santaland Diaries” for the holiday.)
I did my Ray Romano impression. It consists of two lines: “Mom!” & “Debra!”
Our ghosts of Christmas past:
Mike Shannon told us about growing up and his Christmas memories. He thinks that the Cardinals could do well if they stay healthy.
Eric Mink was here to add a touch of the Chosen People to our Gentile proceedings. Both John & Eric cut their hair at home. Eric brought us books.
Joe Bonwich recommended teppanyaki-style restaurants for holiday family dining (or Blueberry Hill). Joe told us about Acero in Maplewood and Araka in Clayton. Joe brought JC a Polish cookbook & the rest of us wine.
We perpetuated the myth that many Jews go out for Chinese food on Christmas. The Chinese do not celebrate Christmas any more than Jews do, so most Chinese restaurants are open on Christmas.
Joe Holleman says to see Charlie Wilson’s War, Juno & The Savages.
Brian McKenna says to watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas” & Bad Santa.
Between one-liners, Brian told us about “Major League Baseball Advanced Media, L.P.” (You, the listener, can look it up if you want. But it might make you angry that the Cardinals got so many of your tax dollars.)
JC recommends 1991’s 29th Street. We talked about It’s a Wonderful Life. Home Alone,Love Actually (not for kids!), Scrooged, and the two hard-to-find items: “A Christmas Carol” with George C. Scott and the one my mother recommends, 1947’s It Happened on 5th Avenue.
Frank Cunetto from Cunetto House of Pasta fed us and our guests and we thank him.
Charles Glenn and his band sang in our studio. Booking information for them can be had by calling 314.721.9090 and asking for Brad or Jeff - or click here.
We also had Kevin Nealon on with us. He’s hosting “The Funniest Commercials of the Year.” It debuts next Wednesday, the 26th at 8pm on TBS. He told us that “Weeds” has been picked up for a 4th season. This weekend NBC is running the Steve Martin/James Taylor SNL show from 1991. See more about that here.
Our 12 Days is finally over. Kim won over $7.5k of stuff by knowing:
When one’s tongue is stuck to a pole one shouldn’t try to use a credit card or driver’s license to get free.
The average person suffers $40 worth of damage after the Christmas season.
Cut off a half inch of a live Christmas tree & it will stay around longer.
Our final tally of correct answers: John & Laurie both had 16 correct. I had 15 correct, but I still have one up in the air from a previous day’s question and he won’t tell me if I got it right – just to torture me.
Finally, “The Simpsons” began on “The Tracey Ullman Show.” Last week they did a parody of this:
and it was this:
