Friday, 11/30 -- Hi. We all were here today. What a great way to start the weekend!

Happy Anniversary! Today is the one-year anniversary of the ice storm that knocked out the power. JC lost five different flavors of salsa. Let’s have a moment of silence for the salsa...

Okay.

Go Tigers! We tried to explain football plays: Passing, punting, the screen pass, draw plays and routes (post & flag). I could recap them here, but you, the listener, either know them already or need a better explanation than I could give in this space.

The first Cardinals games at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL are on Wednesday, February 27th vs. St. Louis University at 1:05 pm and Thursday, February 28th vs. New York Mets at 1:05 pm.

Recent trends in Christmas lights: Rope lights, icicle lights, inflatable outdoor displays, inflatable snow globes, and now LED Lights.

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor diode that emits incoherent narrow-spectrum light when electrically biased in the forward direction of the p-n junction. This effect is a form of electroluminescence. John & I have strands of LED Christmas lights at our houses.

According to an article in Newsday: The LED Christmas lights are 80 percent more efficient, is how we are advertising it," she said, "and they last up to 20,000 hours or the equivalent of up to 20 years. LEDs are cool to the touch, lessening danger of burns or fire. Up to 20 strings of them can be put together. A string of them doesn't cease functioning if one light is defective. And they cost pennies to use during a season, versus about $4.50 for a typical string of regular lights.

Someone called in to tell us about a Christmas light tester/repair gun.

The Showgram’s 12 Days of Christmas starts in less than six days.

We discussed how athletes are bigger now than they were a generation ago. But people are also bigger, especially the kids. And a generation ago professional athletes had “off season” jobs.

As of right now, the Rams have more blackouts than wins.

Laurie correctly called her traffic report a “tragic report.” We learned that traffic information can come from www.MoDot.org, www.thenewi64.org and www.traffic.com. Thanks, Shane!

Dan O’Neill & Dal Maxvill will be signing Dan’s Sportsman’s Park: The Players, The Fans & The Game book at the Barnes & Noble in Fairview Heights. Dal was Laurie’s husband’s favorite player growing up – because he was scrappy.

Dal wasn’t too happy when JC flew the plane with the “Mets are pond scum” banner behind it. But then the next year at spring training, he picked up his tab at dinner.

A Crèche is a Nativity Scene. “St. Louis Crèches & Carols” is this weekend from 12-9pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 10445 Clayton Road in Frontenac.

JC’s older daughter is singing in the Lady of the Snows concert tomorrow night: www.snows.org. And his younger daughter is receiving a kindness award this morning. Ah, the ying and the yang of life (the ying being the adorable, sweet & talented daughters, the yang being their father).

One of eight people in the US is an immigrant.

Four ways to silence Christmas carolers:
-- Turn off your lights
-- Turn up your music
-- Come to the door with a towel
-- Come to the door with a phone

Find out what women don’t want for Christmas:

The JoY was Allan Sherman’s “Good Advice (part two).” Today would have been his birthday – if he were still alive. The 3fA featured John Fogerty & Credence (Fogerty is in concert tonight at Scottrade Center). The Vault was “Hair of the Dog” by Nazareth. Finally, Sunday night on HBO from acclaimed director John Landis comes an uproarious, heartfelt tribute to one of the most celebrated comedians of the past 50 years, Don Rickles. He calls his victims “hockey pucks.”
