Thursday, 10/18 --
Hi, everybody. Laurie is back today and we were glad to have her.
JC is now getting married in less than a million seconds. Laurie’s brother is getting married in April, while my sister is getting married in June. And happy 4th birthday today to my mermaid.
Thousands of people are without power this morning because … it rained.
Van Halen, originally scheduled to perform on Sunday, October 28th, has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict. An announcement regarding the rescheduled date is expected sometime in the near future. All tickets for the postponed date will be honored at the rescheduled performance. Refunds are also available at the original point of purchase.
John was “pissed off” when someone in our building peed on the seat. So we talked about that for a while.
Back in the day, the Musician’s union guys had “record turners.” This was the time between live orchestras in radio booths and DJs.
Another reason John doesn’t have a dog. This poor little girl, so innocent & unaware:
The NHL goal judges are on the move. Some rinks are doing away with the judges behind the goal, other rinks are removing their Plexiglas booth. In the Scottrade Center, the goal judges have moved one section over. From Fannation.com:
“Visitors to NHL games around the league this season likely will notice a significant change in the stands behind each net. Teams have been granted permission by the league to relocate the two goal judges' positions, opening up some prime seat locations in the loge. But the displaced judges won't be out of work. Most of them will move, plungers in hand, to the press box. If that takes them too far from the action, they'll be positioned elsewhere in the building, perhaps at the Zamboni entrance. Otherwise, the job will fall to referees and replays, and sometimes the scrutiny of the Toronto-based "war room" that pipes in telecasts of the games.”
Dr. Kandula was with us today. She said that the sun is the worst thing for your skin. On November 14th Gilda’s Club is having an event at the Ritz. Gilda’s Club presents “The Women’s Event … not just for women anymore!” - an evening benefiting men, women and children living with cancer. The event includes celebrity speaker Alan Zweibel (a comedian and writer from “Saturday Night Live,” “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and a jewelry raffle valued at over $10,000. Radios that receive television audio will be obsolete when all television broadcasts go digital.
Next year the NLCS will be on FOX and the ALCS on TBS. And like we said yesterday, the reason the Cleveland–Boston series took a day off yesterday was as a courtesy to the National League (a game five would have happened if the Rockies hadn’t swept).
According to stltoday.com: “Missouri law doesn't outlaw ticket scalping for non-sports events. The law against scalping sports tickets is repealed effective Nov. 28. Anti-scalping ordinances in St. Louis and Kansas also will be abolished.”
On that note, we didn’t have any Hannah Montana tickets, but we did have front row John Mellencamp tickets.
Don Clark was a news anchor at Channel 11 back in the early 80s.

Julianne Moore was on the air with us and she told us about her soap opera past. She also has a children’s book out, Freckleface Strawberry based on real life experiences from when she was young. If she had to pick a favorite role, then it would be Far From Heaven. We were gonna ask about her awesome nude roles, but JC thought it might be kinda odd considering we were talking about her children’s book.
Also, here are the other books we talked about today: Stellaluna by Janell Cannon, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina, Little Bear's Visit by Else Holmelund Minarik & illustrated by Maurice Sendak, Kindness Counts - Learning Lessons With Disney's Princesses, Counting Kisses by Karen Katz, Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
And Mater & the Ghostlight from the Pixar / Disney folks. The Polar Express written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg.
Reminders: Laurie will be at the new Viviano’s Festa Italiano at Olive & 141 on Saturday from 10:30am-12:30pm. JC is hosting the Our Lady of Lourdes Men’s Club Sports Trivia Challenge on Friday, November 16th. To get a table or to find out more call Dale at 314.863.2704.
The JoY was “Cut the Mullet” by Wesley Willis & “Achy Breaky Song” by “Weird Al” Yankovic in honor of Hannah Montana’s father who is in town tonight. The 3fA featured Supertramp and our last pairs of Carlos Mencia tickets. The Vault was “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel live from the 2003 Grammys. Finally, Kathy Lee Gifford was on “Name That Tune” with Tom Kennedy on Channel 11 in the early 1980s.
