1978 was the Year of Three Popes (Paul VI, John Paul I and John Paul II).
Six reasons you, the listener, are not getting promoted (from CNN):
You slack off.
You do just enough to get by.
You’re not visible enough.
You’re difficult.
You haven’t mastered your current job.
Your boss needs you in your current position.
JC wants to remind y’all where everyone first heard about Walt Jocketty being fired and from whom. If your mind had blocked it out, it was from JC in June. So the great huncher is ready to predict again and he says Tony LaRussa will be next and it will be as soon as the end of the week. Who is JC’s pick for the new head coach of your Saint Louis Cardinals? Joe Girardi. And you read it here first (unless you read it over the weekend). He also speculates that Bill Cower could be the new Rams head coach.
Speaking of the Rams, JC got a copy of and watched Sunday’s game vs. the Cardinals. He said we shoulda won that game. And since no one else in the area saw her on television, here is a photo of Brenda Warner at the game.

Ubiquitous (sometimes spelled with an “e,” according to Google) – to be present in many places at once.
Bad baseball jokes: “Chicken Catcher Torre” & “Jose, Can You See?”
Sorry, Janice, we aren’t going to give out the recipe for U-Man soup.
People work as much as they think they are worth. As Laurie’s father always said, “People will take their anticipated salary in either cash or post-it notes.”
Bonnie Raitt & Michael O'Keefe were married from 1991–2000; they are now divorced.
We made John defend the “sport” of running. He says to keep training as not to crap yourself.
Activities that make people think, “I’m never doing this again:” running, softball, golf & drinking alcohol.
Webster University today announced that former U.S. Ambassador George H. Walker III has bestowed upon the school a gift of $10 million, which is the single largest in Webster's 92-year history. George Herbert Walker III, commonly known as Bert Walker, is a former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary and the first cousin of former President George Herbert Walker Bush (the 41st President of the US). His father George Herbert Walker, Jr. was the cofounder of the New York Mets baseball team. His father, George Herbert Walker I, was the founder of G. H. Walker & Co., which is now part of the Merrill Lynch conglomerate. Although Bert went to Yale (& is a member of Skull & Bones) he’s served on Webster's board since 1974.
JC & I spoke about the Genesis shows in Columbus & Chicago. I was vindicated after being vilified last week about my Genesis review. JC thought the show was just okay. I really like the songs that I knew, but 45 minutes of the concert were songs I really wasn’t very familiar with. JC thought Tony Banks was like a stone on stage & would have liked him to be more animated. I said either that or don’t put him out in the front.
Radio Rich is a gentle giant, but we’d love to see him in a bar fight.
Dave told us when weathercasters say “unlimited view” it is only about 60 miles.
Make sure your house is actually on fire before you call for help. And thanks to Doug Johnson from Procon Fire & Safety for bringing us our own extinguishers.

People surveyed by ABC News mostly don’t mind illegal immigrants – if they speak English.
Dino and Jules Karagiannis from the Tenderloin Room at the Chase Park Plaza were on the air with us this morning. They told us why the restaurant had been closed for a while (a Sprinkler system was being installed). They are open for dinner seven nights a week from 5-10pm and will reopen for lunch (11am–2 pm) beginning in November. Dino let us know that a Chateaubriand steak (also known as a Filet mignon) is a thick cut from the tenderloin, usually only offered as a serving for two. He also told us he burns a steak or two from time to time (and that feeds the staff).
Captain Carl’s Buried Treasure was asked yesterday and it was “Hour 1” by the Scorpions (which is the opening song for both the Blues & Rams).
The JoY was “Really!?! with Seth & Amy” from last weekend’s “SNL.” The 3fA was a Rod Stewart two-fer (we were behind). The Vault was “On the Loose” by Saga. Finally, in 1986 the FOX Network debuted on KDNL Channel 30.
