Monday, 10/1 --
Good morning! Today begins not only Carl’s birth-month of October, but also JC’s 24th year on the air (and he gets married in 28 days).
A high five to the Cardinals who ended their season yesterday with their fifth win in a row, 6-5, over the Pirates. I’m not a ‘baseball’ fan, I’m a Cardinal’s fan, so that’s all I’m sayin’.
How not to set a revenge fire: Do not hold the Molotov cocktail in your hand, trying to decide the best method for launch, until it explodes in your own hand like the arsonist in O’Fallon that set himself on fire.
Carpe Diem to the U-Man who predicted the Rams’ losing score on the nose: 35-7! Another seize the day to Dave Murray who predicted yesterday’s weather accurately – the inclement weather dissipated before reaching us.
At Rock ‘N CholesteRoll Saturday, JC overheard some attendee who mistakenly thought one of the security guards for the event was JC, commented that he looked like he thought he owned the place. And the fan adoration continued as another ‘gentleman’ hollers over, “Hey, J.C.! How ‘bout those Cubs?! They stink! They’re still awful!” Classy.

Do you, the listener, believe in time travel? Scientists believe it is possible. The issue isn’t technology, but economics. You'd have to be 16,000% richer than Bill Gates to afford it. A well-read listener shared that you can only travel forward in time, not backward because it is impossible to travel from a more chaotic universe such as the present and future where things are still very random, to a more ordered universe, the past. In an attempt to give an understandable example, he said that if you drop a glass and it shatters, you can’t ever go back to a state where it is completely whole.
If you could travel in time, Laurie would go forward, get the winning lottery numbers and come back to collect some quick, easy cash. Her dad always said he’d go back and buy stock in IBM. JC and U-Man and most men would go back in time to score with some chick they blew it with the first go round. Carl would probably go back and buy all the original Star Wars action figures when they were first issued!
Merb’s candies sent in a box of goodies today. Mmmm! Merb’s apples. Must be autumn!
Carl is missed today. As he sleeps off a drunken stupor in Orlando the Showgram has three satellite interviews and timing issues.
Jerry O’Connell’s new ABC comedy show "Carpoolers" debuts Tuesday. The show, by the people who did "Arrested Development", is about four guys who commute together, don’t like each other and each have their own problems.
JC asked him about the pivotal moment when he realized he had a chance with super hottie, Rebecca Romajn. His response was a story about how they live in the suburbs of L.A. where there are rattlesnakes. He is from NY where the most terrorizing creatures are rats and roaches. Apparently there was a rattler behind Jerry and Rebecca and he used her as a shield! Not so manly. He made up for it by heroically killing the reptile with a crochet mallet in front of her.
Laurie asked Jerry about the long break between Stand By Me and Jerry Maguire. O’Connell said he was planning to go to college and then he got an agent and auditioned for an episode of "Webster" with Emmanuel Lewis who was decked in full Michael Jackson regalia. Jerry and his dad were uncomfortable with the whole audition. Being from NY, they weren’t used to L.A. flash. When his dad called afterward, he said, “I’ve got good news and good news.” At this point Jerry is thinking he got the part in spite of the awkward audition. His dad goes on to say, “The good news is you did not get the role. And … We’re going home!” After that Jerry went on to college and got girls by dropping the Stand By Me bomb. At that point he realized it would be an actor’s life for him!
The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, was on while my daughter needed to be walked to school. Mrs the Intern missed it. Sorry.
Who Did We See?
John: Friday – Soccer with his daughter; Saturday – Volleyball doubleheader with another daughter and sailing paper airplanes with his youngest, then Rock ’n CholesteRoll where he ate good food that was probably full of cholesterol; then a wedding reception for Gerard and Beth Rockmeyer. His two older daughters were at a school fair and came home with a new pet fish. On Sunday John went to work and then picked up his mother who joined him for more soccer games and lunch.
JC: Unfortunately he forgot the full details at home so this will be revisited, but off the top of his head … Friday – A limo picked him up and took him to a birthday gathering for Brian McKenna in Kirkwood. Then they rode to Vito’s for his favorite pizza and he met the owners. Next it was off to the Blues game where he encountered Blues President Peter McLoughlin going through the crowds, shaking hands and thanking people for being there. And finally, he spent time with friends Trish and Paul. Saturday – Lunch at Olympia and Rock 'N CholesteRoll where he got into a conversation with John Waite who was all over some chick who was just melting – it was Allison Krauss from the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. They did a duet together on Waite’s new album. Sunday – he slept through the Rams loss. Laurie: Performed in four shows at the Playhouse at Westport and saw Vic P. with his little girl, Mia.
Captain Carl’s Buried Treasure was Happy Birthday to his stepfather James Joseph Bernhard, Sr. The JoY was Bill Maher. The 3fA featured the Talking Heads. The Vault was celebrating the life of good friend Abigail Pollay, who passed away two years ago this week. Her favorite song was the Split Ends’ "I Got You." Finally, Randy Quaid did voice overs for KFC; Tom Bosley promoted Glad plastic garbage and sandwich bags and Mark McGwire hocked Clean Shower.
Don’t Do Anything Stupid,
Carl The Intern |
