Thursday, 5/8 -- Hello & Happy Truman Day!

This is number four on our FAQ, but it should be repeated again. Our phone numbers for contests are: 314.969.9696 or 866.455.9696. Just to talk to us please call 314.969.9630.

Because you, the listener, wanted to know: Jake Shimabukuro the "Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele" was the artist doing the version of “In My Life” yesterday.

I think the worst place to take a nap would be on an airport tarmac.

I love bringing food onto airplanes. Whenever I leave town to visit either my friend, Matt, or my wife’s uncle, Art, I bring a ½-baked pizza (webmaster note: I have no idea how this works!). John enjoys bringing Subway sandwiches & opening them at 30,000 feet.

We are way above the average for rainfall in May. And Dave says that May & June are usually the wettest months of the year. But that’s because of thunderstorms & not the weather patterns we are having right now.

From Wired: NASA is conducting a bed-rest study, and they're willing to pay $17,000 to anyone who's willing to stay in bed for 90 days straight (2,160 hours).

If accepted into the study, you'll spend 24 hours a day on your back with your head just slightly lower than your feet. You'll be awake for 16 hours a day, & get a solid eight hours of sleep every night.

In order to qualify for the study:
1. You have to pass the Air Force physical for flight duty. (Fat lazy bastards need not apply.)
2. You have to go to Houston, Texas, for the duration of the test, so NASA's scientists can observe you from their Human Test Subject Facility at Johnson Space Center. Clicky, to apply.

We are broadcasting live from Bellerive CC Monday for the Media Day of the BMW Championship. To purchase tickets to the September event, clicky.

Matt Morris has made $47,812,810 in his career (& is still owed more).

Gas is expensive. But here’s how the price of gas compares to other liquids (from Cockeyed.com):
For example, you're paying over $3 for a gallon of gas, but a gallon of Evian spring water costs twice that.

A gallon of Budweiser is $9.
A gallon of Hershey's chocolate syrup is $13.
A gallon of shampoo sets you back almost $38.
A gallon of Absolut vodka goes for $58.
A gallon of Liquid Paper costs over $198.
A gallon of penicillin costs just over $300.
A gallon of human blood costs around $1,500.  Human blood isn't “sold” in the U.S., (sorry, Vampires) but they have a $200 processing fee for every 500 milliliters of a transfusion.
A gallon of printer ink costs $2,700.
A gallon of LSD costs nearly $123,000.
And a gallon of scorpion venom costs almost $39 million (because the venom is used to create anti-venom to treat scorpion stings).

Next week is National Bike to Work Week. From May 12th-16th, the Great Rivers Greenway District has announced the opening of 57 miles of additional on-street Bike St. Louis routes through Saint Louis County & Saint Louis City. With the expansion, the Bike St. Louis system now totals 77 miles of dedicated bike lanes & shared traffic lanes. Clicky.

According to a recent BBC survey, one in three people has shown up to work hung over. That may not surprise you. But this may: One in 10 people has actually gone to work while they were drunk. Laurie suggested some of the Showgrammers have done so.

The highest percentage of employees who've gone to work this way:
15% of information technology workers have shown up to work drunk.
23% of business professionals have gone to work drunk.
24% of construction workers have gone to work drunk.
And 41% of people who work in media & other creative jobs have gone to work while under the influence of alcohol.

Here are five reasons your lazy co-workers haven't gotten fired (from AOL Jobs):
1. They have a relationship with someone higher up.
2. Your boss thinks it could be worse.
3. Your boss feels sorry for them.
4. They have incriminating information.
5. They have everybody else fooled.
JC adds: 6. They are working on something that the company is really behind.

Our Mother’s Day daily prize features a pair of tickets to see Thoroughly Modern Millie at Stages St. Louis, plus a gift certificate to Merb's Candies for 2 pounds of chocolate-covered strawberries.

We had guests with us from the Missouri Botanical Garden talking about Chinese Culture Days & the new Shanghai Acrobatic Circus next Saturday & Sunday at the garden. Clicky.

I hope the acrobats can to this trick.
