This will be out on dvd and Blu-ray in October…hope I get it for a Christmas present!! (subtle hint ? ) but I saw it last night on the big screen for it’s one-night-only nationwide screening. It’s the film of the tour supporting the then-newly released ‘Exile On Main Street’ album, so many of the songs were being sung live for the first time, i.e. “Sweet Virginia”, “All Down The Line” and “Tumbling Dice” and the Stones attack these songs with unbridled enthusiasm. It’s especially evident with “Tumbling Dice” that this concert showcased a rock band in the raw. There ...

Angelina Jolie is promoting a new 2010 summer movie called “Salt”, so she’s making the media rounds. In the Sunday newspaper July 11th edition of Parade , there was this line:
“She came to L.A. at 17, hung out on the Sunset Strip, was a hippie, loved the Rolling Stones, studied acting…”
So that line made me think about her appearance in the Stones video “Anybody Seen My Baby”. I thought, ‘wow…this girl comes to L.A., loves the Stones who probably never heard of her, but within a few years she manages to land a gig with the boys’ and ...

Call me biased if you want but I think The Rolling Stones can take other people’s songs and make them their own… MUCH better than OTHER people can do justice to a Rolling Stones song.
I recently had a conversation with my sister-in-law, Bobbi…that is if you consider exchanging text messages as ‘having a conversation’…but anyway, she said (texted) she liked ‘cover’ versions of Rolling Stones songs better than the Stones’ original versions. First of all it made me realize that not everyone is as fanatical about this band as I am…I just couldn’t wrap my brain around her preference ...

When it comes to understanding what Mick is singing, it’s kinda like ‘you can’t tell the players without a scorecard’, in other words, ya need a lyric sheet. Here’s one of the more popular radio tunes from the boys, but you’ll notice that the original lyrics underwent a slight change to what we’re accustomed to hearing both on the air and in concert. The song is a historical reference to white slave owners and their pension for ‘side action’ from their victims.
Print this off and lay it on the seat in the car so the next time we play ...

I have to get a turntable soon. I have a number of albums in a closet and whenever I’m in there for another purpose, I see them. The albums and their ‘experience’ beckon me. Albums have contributed a great deal to my concept of our of culture. To experience new music was also to engulf you into the creative endeavor that went with the accompanying album cover and contents. The art, the information, the personal notes, a kind of insider’s society even though the masses had access to it. But that’s what it was all about wasn’t it? A shared ...

I’m writing this on April 4th 2010. It was 46 years ago today when the Rolling Stones released their first album. April 4th, 1964. They had been together for eight months. I was not as fanatical about the Stones then as I am now. Who, including me, would know that they would become the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band!? I was into ALL things British invasion at the time. I loved the Beatles, The Stones, The Dave Clark Five, The Kinks, The Yardbirds. The Yardbirds hold a particular memory for me. I was 16 and my mom, dad, and ...
