Two months after Roger Taylor announced that Ben Whishaw was the band's preferred choice to take the lead role in the long-planned Freddie Mercury biopic, Whishaw's casting has been confirmed.
Deadline reports that Whishaw, who gained excellent notices after playing Q in the record-breaking Bond film Skyfall, has been handed the Mercury role in a film that will tell the story of the band in "a formative coming-of-age story … culminating in Queen headlining Live Aid in 1985". Mercury died in 1991 of Aids-related illness, but the film will apparently not tackle that aspect of his life.
Dexter Fletcher, who successfully tackled the Proclaimers-soundtracked musical Sunshine on Leith, has been taken on as director, no doubt due to his presumed proficiency with a soundtrack containing a string of rock classics. New Cardinals Announcer - Tim McCarver

FOX Sports Midwest is nearing completion of a deal that would add Tim McCarver to the Cardinals' broadcast booth in a limited role next season. McCarver stepped down as a national baseball analyst with FOX after calling the 2013 World Series between the Cardinals and Red Sox. Many thought that would end McCarver's decades-long stint in the broadcast booth. Instead, the 72-year-old will soon join the FOX Sports Midwest team, sources confirmed to MLB.com.
The Cardinals are supportive of the addition, sources said, and the structure of McCarver's deal is expected to include a workload of around 20-25 games in 2014.
FOX Sports Midwest has not announced any of its broadcast plans for next season, but the network does plan to return all the members of its 2013 broadcast team. If Mike Shannon reduces the number of games he calls on radio, television analysts Rick Horton and Al Hrabosky may ...
Mellencamp to record new album in January

John Mellencamp has just signed on with Universal to record a new release.....his first in 5 years! He told Rolling Stone he has 85 new songs that will be paired down to around a dozen. T Bone Burnett will play on & produce the new work in John's Indiana studio beginning after the holidays. John says "we're gonna go into the studio for however long it takes to make a new album".

"Rock To The Rescue" is a non-profit organization that was formed by Tommy Shaw & Kevin Cronin in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Since then, they, along with several other musicians have performed on occasion to benefit victims of catastrophies. Last night Styx & REO performed at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum to to help raise money for recent storm & tornado victims in the midwest.
